Turkey Hunting for Henned-Up Toms in Michigan
My 2024 late season Michigan turkey hunt. Self-filmed on a small piece of permission private land, right along the property line with almost no cover. I used a ghillie suit to blend in as much as possible and relied on two hen decoys to bring these turkeys into range for a shot. Unlike most of my turkey hunts, I never made a call to bring them in, but it worked out great. The old saying roosted is roasted was true this morning.

Arrow Noise Test - How Loud Is an Arrow?
Переглядів 1569 місяців тому
In this video I shoot three identically weighted arrows to measure the noise created from adding fletchings, and then a fixed blade broadhead to a bare arrow shaft. With a shotgun microphone mounted inside a Rode Blimp, I capture balanced audio signals with a mixing console and audio recorder hardwired with XLR cables in the middle of the arrow flight. No automatic gain control is used in the r...

How to Tie a Better D Loop
Переглядів 1339 місяців тому
This is my favorite D loop upgrade for a bowhunting setup. It uses a similar method of tying soft knots onto your bow string as finger shooters. I consider it to be the best, most secure way to tie in a D loop. By using BCY 3D - or a similar serving material - under the D loop knots, you can effectively prevent nock pinch, D loop slippage, and nock point movement. A pair of double back-served s...
Turkey Hunting Michigan Public Land
Переглядів 1602 роки тому
My first self-filmed spring turkey hunt! This big, old Michigan gobbler took the bait exactly the way I hoped. Some carefully placed decoys combined with my trusty friction call were the main reasons I closed the deal on this tom during this strategic, early morning hunt on public land. Ten minutes is all it took between him pitching off of the limb and me successfully punching my tag! With a l...
Hen Turkey Called In CLOSE (Real Clucking and Purring Sounds)
Переглядів 2592 роки тому
I headed out late this evening during Michigan's spring turkey hunting season to see if I could locate some birds to hunt the following day on a piece of public land national forest. I only had about an hour left in the day to legally hunt, and I never imagined I'd fire up a longboard on my second calling sequence basically right behind our house. We hadn't been hearing or seeing many turkeys i...
Four Longbeards HAMMERING on the Roost!
Переглядів 462 роки тому
Follow along as my 2022 spring turkey hunting season kicks off in northern Michigan. I set up under four big gobblers on opening morning and do my best to keep them on a small chunk of public land to get it done during the first morning. These longbeards proved to be a challenge, and lead me to reevaluate my plan of attack for punching my tag. 0:00 Early Morning Interview 2:10 Gobbling from the...
Trophyline Mission Platform - Mods & Camo Paint Upgrade
Переглядів 6 тис.2 роки тому
I scored this Trophyline Mission saddle hunting platform on Craigslist and it was in really nice shape, but I decided to improve it with some fairly simple alterations. The first change I made was to use a couple Nicholson files to the remove the rough and jagged seams from the casting process. This was a nice improvement to the feel and finish of the base. After disassembling the platform, the...
Trying the Tethrd ESS, Ropeman 1, Black Diamond HotForge Carabiner, and Samson Predator in a Tree
Переглядів 10 тис.3 роки тому
This is my first time wearing a hunting saddle and connecting to a tether rope in a tree. This gear is used for saddle hunting and can make your bowhunting options much more mobile. In comparison to hunting from a ladder stand, hang-on stand, or climbing stand, it's definitely different and will take some time to get use to the transition. This saddle, made by Tethrd, is different from their ot...

How To: DIY Tick Repellent Spray
Переглядів 9773 роки тому
This is how you can make your own DIY permethrin tick repellent spray - similar to the popular Sawyer brand spray - to help prevent ticks from sticking to your clothing, biting and embedding into your skin, and spreading tick borne illnesses while in the field! Mix this up and spray the solution on your clothing (give it time to dry before wearing the clothing!) before hunting, hiking, fishing,...
Mountain Top Shed Hunt / Last Minute Deer Shed

BIG Broken Bulls and a Kicker Buck! Shed Hunting
Переглядів 8665 років тому
We hit the hills once again to try to match up a pile of deer and elk sheds we picked up our last time out. None of us were able to match up some of the bigger sheds we've found, but we did manage to find a haul of really nice deer and elk sheds - including my biggest shed to date and a cool mule deer antler with a kicker.
Stacking Up Deer and Elk Sheds!

We made an overnight trip to hit the hills to do some shed hunting and were rewarded for hiking hard and searching some new country. Our shed hunt resulted in a total of 18 elk and mule deer sheds.

Did it come with a lineman belt and tether?
It only came with the saddle. I added a tether and lineman rope after..
Killer spot, great job at concealment....Lot of birds, lots of action....Well done
great hunt. your efforts paid off!!!! Congrats on a big tom
Really enjoyed this video. Way to really tough it out with the setup you had. Lots of great turkey action there and hope you keep filming those hunts!
Excellent job
If the turkeys don't whip you, the heat will lol
Nice video, I just ordered a new Nikon monarch fieldscope 16-48 x 60ed. I hope to get this kind of view from my setup. I'm in North Carolina. There are tons of Barred owls around here. It's a rare night that I can't hear at least one when I poke my head outside at night. I can hear them during the days as well. I felt like that bird was looking right at me. Good job, Thanks for showing me what this scope can do.
Enjoy the new scope! I’m sure you’ll like it as much as I do mine!
promo sm 💯
love your attention to detail, thanks for the great vid
Do you think using a matte finish top coat might protect the paint job?
Mine has held up pretty well since I painted it. The top coat would probably help, but if you get a little paint loss, you can always add a bit more over top. With the random nature of the pattern, it’s hard to notice the new paint.
I have the same problem with hunting, thanks
I always get a kick out of how much effort people put into camo painting their platforms. Lol
Great step by step info! Thanks for the ideas on a stellar paint job.
Looks awesome! love the technique. I’d probably not use the tan as my base and go for darker green and brown color for my area but it looks sick! Def gunna do this to mine and my sticks. Thx for the video!
Are you the same Matt Lewis that use to live off of Hwy 70??
That must be a different Matt Lewis…
@@LewisHuntingCo OK thank you. Great Tom you got!! Congrats!!
How do u like the phantom saddle?
Compared to the Method 2 XL and ESS, it’s a lot less messing around in the tree to get it in the right position. When it comes to comfort, the Method 2 XL is slightly more comfortable for me. Both the ESS and the Method 2 XL can give better lower back support, but with a back band for the Phantom XL that would be negligible. To note, my wife did not prefer the Phantom XL, but didn’t have a regular sized Phantom to try.
What's the verdict after a year? Great video!
The buckle on this ESS saddle was pretty loud, so I ended up going to a Latitude Method XL with a rope belt. I also purchased a Phantom XL this year to try a single panel. Thanks for watching!
Looks real good. I’ve done the sticks using the same method. Guess I need to make a matching set by camp painting the mission. Thanks
Great hunt !! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Great vid love the camera quality and the thumbnail.
Thank you!
Looks really good
This looks really nice man! Great video.
It definitely turned out better than I expected.
Lowered your tether around the tree to eye level at least. I like shoulder level
My second time in the tree was much better. Lower tether height and lower saddle position made a world of difference.
Just my mods I did on mine.....I sewed the panels 2gether where I want them ...and replaced the webbing bridge with an amsteel ultibridge from cruzr. After I made these mods I freakn love my ESS.
I agree 100% with the AmSteel mod. The original webbing is very strong, but I like the idea of the adjustability with the AmSteel bridge.
I've been trying to order one all summer long and it's been on backorder. Do you think Jay's still has some in stock?
The last time I was in they had quite a few still on the shelf. Give them a call - I bet they still have some.
@@LewisHuntingCo just called up there and they got some in stock! I can't believe it, I'm heading up there tmr to grab mine! Thanks!
@@robcurtis9538 enjoy! That’s awesome!
Good overview and footage man. I hope you like it as much as I like mine.
Thanks for checking out the video. I appreciate all you do to educate and promote the hunting lifestyle. I have to ask, have you done any major mods to your ESS?
@@LewisHuntingCo I am about to send mine to a friend for some mods. I'm ditching the leg straps, changing the belt style, and changing to a round, fixed length, webbing bridge.
I’m with you on those thoughts. I actually picked up a Latitude Method 2 XL this week to compare its metal-free design. It’s pretty nice, but it has a few downsides as well. I think my next move is going to be upgrading my sewing machine to make my own hybrid saddle.
@@SaddleHunter we going to get a video when it’s done?
Dude I love all 3 camera qualities and angles. Seems like a great product. Can't wait to see it in action!
I just subscribed and liked. Keep out there!
Thanks
I hike that mountain every year! I have pick up some great deer &elk sheds up there 👊🏻 just east of springville
Nice sheds. That's a good day on the mountain.
It sure was!
Nice video and finds buddy!!
Appreciate it! Thanks!
Awesome trip!! Dont forget your sunscreen lol! 🤣
nice sheds, here in the duchesne area lots of browns and lots of snow!!
It looks like a lot of people are getting into good pockets of browns lately. I need to get back out there!
Nice find
Thanks!
Nice finds, man. I love the attitude you have when you're up on the mountain. Keep it up.
I don’t even think it’s possible to have a bad day on the mountain. Thanks for watching!
Great sheds, fun video!!
Congrats on your elk. Nice video and mini-series.
What Ammunition you used for your 270 win?
Thank you much Sir!! Keep it up
Great video. At least your rangefinder was way off so that you missed completely instead of hitting low and wounding the elk. Nice work on the camera.
shed hunt'n utah is always a great day, great video!
Cool finds. The young lady on the tailgate had the sheds on the wrong side as she was showing them off. Congrats on the finds and nice video.
*Great blind>>>**ur2.pl/926** Very quick to set up and break down. Well designed and constructed. Plenty of room for two people. I used it for turkey hunting this morning. First day of the season and I got a bird at 5:55AM. Had to be the blind*
Are y’all going to eat it or the kill is just for sport??
1. The audio sounds amazing through ear buds. 2. Your B-roll 👌🏻 3. Perfect airport entertainment. Currently binge watching all your old videos 😍
Great video. Can't wait for part 2.
If u tip and tail ur fletchings they stay on way longer even on pass throughs
What elk tag do you have? I live up here in Heber city
scout, scout, and scout some more...just like scouting for hunting season you have to scout in the winter for sheds. every year is different depending on the amount of snow. all you can do is put the glass to work man. That and walk your butt off haha...
That looks like great chukar hunting country. Not so sure about sheds. Keep at it, you'll figure it out. Best of luck.
